The Ionian University is a relatively young regional University specialising in Humanities, which has demonstrated an intense activity and rapid growth particularly in the last decade. The Music Department along with the Audiovisual Department are participating to the AMBIANT project because of the very important role in the intracultural exchange

This program suggests as well as the essential impact, this trinational collaboration between researchers and artists will have to the respective academic and local communities.

IONIAN University wants to promote its educational initiatives in Arts and Technologies to European students, artists and teachers.

The Ionian University is involved in the project through two complementary departments:

The Department of Audiovisual Arts and the Electroacoustic Music Research and Applications Laboratory. The Department of Audiovisual Arts of the Ionian University (AVARTS) is the first and currently only academic institution in Greece specializing in Audiovisual and Media Arts. It combines education, research and production in interactive digital arts of sound and image, photography, audio and visual design and related fields of applied and experimental arts. It was established in 2004 and is equipped with studios for production and experimentation in the Digital Arts. The head of Audiovisual Arts department is Iannis Zannos.
The EPHMEE (Electroacoustic Music Research and Applications Laboratory of the Music Department of Ionian University) focuses on the study and production of original work within the field of sonic art and technology and its aims include the structuring and support of education on music and technology, the support of research and innovation in sonic art, the production of music and the dissemination of knowledge and artistic experience. Another important function of EPHMEE, within the frame of the Music Department, is documentation and music production, which have so far resulted an archive of many hundreds of hours of recordings, six CD publications etc. The head of EPHMEE is Andreas Mniestris.
